as time runs out

I watched House Bunny yesterday and found it to be one of the pinkest movies I've seen awhile. The cast of sorority girls, including Kat Dennings (of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist) Rumer Willis (of PerezHilton.com fame) and Katherine McPhee are pretty funny, all of them insecure and don't know how to handle boys. One of the highlights of the movie was the makeover. Don't you love it when they do makeovers in shows, like in St.Trinian's? The house bunny herself is so silly and perky, I found it hard to laugh at the way she kept misunderstanding things. I especially like the scene where Anna Faris tries to be such a nerd, and fails miserably. It goes to show that it is hard to be a nerd, as hard as it is to be popular.

before.
this movie basically goes hand-in-hand with whatever ideas you have about a blonde's IQ. (which is actually pretty cliched now)
No, I haven't watched
Twilight yet, but I will- when Nurul and Ling comes back, then we can all go together. That way, Camille can fall in love with Edward Cullen all over again.
I'm going to spore next week. I'm actually pretty excited but at the same time, while we're abroad, I'll get less homework done. After shopping in spore, there is seriously no way I'm going to spend my nights revising. I know what you're thinking, why am I procastinating now? At the moment, I'm lazy yet I feel that I have to get this revision done, which is pretty ironic.
After all those weddings in Msia, I gained 2 kilos and this weird, painful bulge on my left foot, apparently it's because I put too much weight on one foot while I was wearing heels. (according to my ballet teacher.) But it'll go away, provided I don't wear anymore heels the rest of this holidays.
I was tempted to buy GG the other day, but decided not too, after all it's bothersome having them in disks with only 3 episodes each. I'll wait till this season's over then get a compilation. In the meantime, I'll content myself with
spoilers sneak peeks.
PS: nurul, if you're reading this, are you coming back from spore on the 20th at 9pm? if you are we might be on the same flight.

it's raining
Friday, October 24, 2008,10:40 AM
the weather here has been... unpredictable. I was anticipating that it'd be pretty cold, because last summer when we came down here it was really-really cold, and they called it late summer, i.e. still spring. But now it's spring and yet the weather has been bright and sunny when the weather people predicted there would be rain. Over the past week the weather has deteriorated, though. Only yesterday then i decided i had to take photos for art, and boy did they turn out really disgusting and quite bland. (compare that with my latest deviations on deviantart, those were taken on the first day.) And today, the rain they were expecting just came(as i'm am typing this blog post, stray bits of rain are falling on my aunt's front lawn.)
but anyway. why am I ranting about the weather? I'm bored, seriously, I am. I've got so much to do though! I haven't geared up for school yet. My composition is half-way done, I left the rest of it in a pendrive at home! The only thing I've done is literally study for bio and read three books that my aunt recommended. I've read,
Remember me? by Sophie Kinsella,
Unpolished Gem by Alice Pung and
Girls of Riyadh by Rajaa Alsanea. All great books. I can't be bothered to review now, though. Ask me if you're really wondering and I'll just tell you.
Today is actually my last whole day spent in Australia. Just one more sleep and I'll be back to the hot and humid Brunei!
Okay, back to art.------------Whoa i just realised that I haven't blogged about my birthday! Basically it was one birthday I'd remember for ages as it was both sweet and very embarassing at the same time! In tutor, I told Lorena that I was turning sixteen, she went hOMG and told Nestor. Then in turn, both of them informed every single person in tutor that it was my birthday, and they weren't allowed to pass unless they had said happy birthday to me first! hahaha :D Later the Nurul got this party hat and made me wear it during maths, but I didn't. This was a decision I regretted later because they made me wear it on my head to the canteen, where random people stopped me and asked if it was my birthday! (embarassing!) On the way to tutor, Alexia delibrately mentioned in front of everyone who passed that it was my birthday today! Mr Lopez threatened to tell everyone in class that it was my birthday, if i didn't 'scream' but unfortunately everyone ALREADY knew. :) But i got through it though, never in my whole sixteen years have that many people known that it was my birthday! Thanks guys. :)Labels: holidays, thoughts

today's rubbish, tomorrow's resource
Saturday, May 31, 2008,4:30 PM
a post in response to green-tags.
recycling is today's design revolution, when waste is seen as a resource. three artists for inspiration.1.
madeleine boulesteix, teacup chandeliers.

can you see the cups? ;)
elegant and pretty. you probably won't even realise they're made from recycled materials that no one wants anymore.
2.
Joe Pogan- scrap metal sculpturesI create animal sculptures using various "found metal" objects like old watches, sprockets, nuts and bolts. The stranger the piece of metal the better, since the end goal is an eye-catching, fascinating amalgamation of metal with odd nooks and crannies you can explore for hours.

3.
Clare Graham- recycled material art. Clare creates art. Recently “Recycled Art” or art made from discarded materials. Take a look but try to think of something to say besides “Oh my Gawd” – or his favorite; “Why would someone do that?”.

Soda Cans

Bottle Caps

made entirely out of buttons.
i hope this has inspired you to think
green too. Who knows, you could create some fantastical art with the rubbish lying around in your house? ;)

dabbling with fashion.
Monday, May 26, 2008,8:08 PM
two things i'm blogging about today.

first:
Kira Plastinina. She's fifteen, turning sixteen next month. She has accomplished what most girls could only dream of doing. She has a fashion company, given to her for her birthday.
Most people remarked she could only do this because her father is rich. How did it start off? Apparently she showed her dad her designs, who then showed it to designers.
She's opening stores in US now.
[
video of her fashion show] [
article on her in NYmag]

second:
Alex Evans. Canadian guy with tons of fans. He's part of a
band, models, designs
clothes and he's into
photography. He's seventeen. But fame must come with haters, because
you can't be famous without haters. He even has fan-art! Don't know if he's famous simply because he looks cute. you judge.

like the hair though. look at those eyelashes. long, and on a guy.
[
videos of him on youtube- there's an astounding number of them]

i wonder how many other prodigies and jacks-of-all-trades are out and about? This inspires too much jealousy from all of us average joes. bleh.

this post is dedicated to a friend.
EILEEN LEE HUI SHI. who...
- hates her chinese name
- corrected my chinese
- was a big part of my early JIS-life
- was in soooo many of my classes- maths, art and ict, pe.
- discussed boys, food, countries (those ideal for living in or travelling to) and teachers during maths with me.
- was into bball.
- who could juggle dating with studying and still get top scores.
- was able to ace PMB in a few short months, got better scores than a lot of people who were there the whole year.
- could make something out of nothing. she could go to ego and pick random stuff and make it match and look pretty.
- was from labuan, and attracted AH-BENGS on the ferry :D
- speaks cantonese. (can go to hongkong and know her way around)
- who knew she wanted to do finance as a career. (above picture taken during Career Matters ASA)
- chose accounting, business and foodtech (because she loved to cook.)
i'm so mad at myself for not finding this out earlier. kinda lost contact with her when she moved back to chms. saw her in the airport when she came back from AUS. She's been in Aus since end of march. will be missed a lot.

Self-beautification
Friday, January 4, 2008,4:00 PM
Seems like ladies have always wanted to look pretty. Each culture has their own set of ideals for beauty, the current one in Asia being the ‘big-eye’ look. How do you do it? Enlarge your eyes and puff your cheeks, and do a ‘V’ with your fingers.
Classic.
And there’s surgery,
plastic surgery. Its main purpose would more likely be to help those who aren’t so fortunate- those born not having some features or needing a new face due to horrible burns, etc. There are all those ladies going under the knife, celebrities and others that can’t accept the fact that they are aging. So what, everyone does. It makes them look artificial- some look good but have complications after their surgery.
Which reminds me of the Korean movie, ‘
200 pounds beauty.’ That’s the director poking fun at Korean ladies who’ve gone under the knife and the different treatment that ladies get, depending whether they are pretty or not.
Not everyone has the money to go under the knife, there are cheaper alternatives,
MAKEUP. And that brings us to the main idea of this post:
what makeup can do nowadays.

okay. pictures of two ladies. here's the scoop: they are the
same person,
before and
after makeup. apparently this is what happened.
A Mainland Chinese girl Lala, sparked a heated debate after she posted pictures of herself before and after applying makeup. Some even questioned if she had photoshopped the pictures. Lala, in a fit of anger, decided to document the process to prove herself as a real internet beauty.
Because of the stark differences between Lala's before and after pictures, some people even speculated that she had used her "twin brother's" picture for the 'before' picture. On the other hand, some have shown support, stating that girls can use makeup to transform themselves.
Comparing the two photos, Lala stated that she used double-eyelid stickers, iris-enlarging contacts, false lashes to open her eyes and highlights on her nose and chin...
here's the full article, but it's in chinese. scroll down to view the pictures of the process.
we ladies cannot deny that we all quest for beauty, but obviously not only external beauty matters, the inside matters too.

blog layout, version 5
Thursday, January 3, 2008,4:31 PM
phew. i've finished my new blog layout. i confess, this is the hardest one i've ever done, and it's still not perfect yet. (
i'll leave you to discover the mistakes (: ) this layout messes around with javascript and a lot of css, of which javascript i'm not entirely sure of. i'm out of practice now, so thus i took a longer time- 2days, yesterday and today. sure feels great to have it done.
sis started school yesterday, she's now in secondary one. still can't get over that feeling she's still very small and young and manja... how can she be in secondary one? she's going on thirteen now! a lot of her friends have moved away, (including her ahem*cough*) and all she can think about is the fact that she has to climb several flights of stairs to her secondary block classroom.
another thing, she has to study commerce.
muahaha a lot of memorising, she will
DETEST it. Also, she might be studying form 1 and form 2 in a year- the booklist states she needs to be buying form 1 & form 2 books as well!
------
popped by school today to get some stuff from my locker. couldn't help noticing on the way to T block there wer more notice boards around the school (NEW?), and the bulletin that states all the asa's had a missing 'S' in the word 'ASA.'

HAPPY NEW YEAR! :)
don't know how many of you were at the empire fireworks, but judging by the queue to empire, the whole brunei gathered there last night.
i've returned from my holidays, suffering a slight bit of jet lag making me sleep earlier. Spent last night watching the fireworks from another point with some church friends, but didn't do any countdowns until the fireworks were over. (which was really quite laggy)
went home and slept, this morning did a spot of spring cleaning and unpacking the stuff. honestly, haven't done so much cleaning in awhile, so i'm on my computer now to take a break.
why don't you
view this slideshow and see how other parts of the world ushered in the new year? as ling says,
this year is the
sweet sixteen year.

a pink martini
Saturday, December 29, 2007,9:54 PM
Christmas was a rather hot day, and we stayed in most of the day. The notorious dinner affair was held the night before, the only thing to look forward to were the presents. I haven’t decided what to get yet for Christmas, so I’ll think about it and get it whenever I think of it.
I’m going back to brunei soon, tomorrow is the last day, I’ll be returning home 31st. I don’t want to go home, I want to stay here. The month did pass really quickly, and I’m afraid of going back to school and facing more school work, most of all anxious about the science GCSE exams results.
I really don’t know what I achieved this holiday, what I’ve wanted to do I’ve done by a bare minimum. I’ve only gone halfway through my photography book, I haven’t done a new blog layout, nor have I done many sketches whatsoever. I haven’t taken many photos, or learnt how to cook…
The only thing I’ve succeeded in doing is having some retail therapy- shopping and RELAXING.
The first few days of this holiday had me whining about not going out, partly due to the fact dad is dead set against not shopping because Australia is expensive.. blah..blah. I’ve actually managed to worm my way out of all that, I’m happy to say, I did manage to cross out some items on my shopping list.
Funny how I’ve actually confessed I have a shopping list.
Next, I’ve read several books this holidays, but I HAVE NOT FINISHED MY CHINESE BOOK. I have a hundred plus pages more and this is due in a week, oh dear. I’ve occupied my time with three books. Neil gaiman, and this book called woman in white, and another which title escapes me.
I really don’t want to get back to school. At least I have another week to catch up on homework.
PS: i have found some pink martini cds :)

A red rose fell upon the soft snow
Sunday, December 2, 2007,9:43 PM
I forgot to mention that the reason why that girl from the previous postwas so cute- it was because she also made up things along her line of thought. She tried to tell a joke-
Why did the mango chase another mango?
Because-because-because-b-b-b-ecause (while trying to prolong the time for her to think)
The fox was dressed as a mango !
---------
I went to watch Enchanted yesterday, and the thing that hit me the most was
The sheer simplicity of love in cartoons
Simple, straightforward and without twists and turns.
One of the scenes was of the New Yorker, surprised that Giselle, the main character could fall in love in just one day and be married the next.
Alas, Giselle is too simple-minded for her own good, making dresses out of curtains and carpets, and being astonished at herself of being angry.
And her Prince is just a little too gay for his own good, totally amorous and overly romantic and airheaded, to the extent of when he hears her voice he jumps down a bridge and lands into a crowd of bikers, falling. He is simply too egoistic, each time the chipmunk tries to say something to him about Giselle, he always thinks it’s about his looks.
The cynical lawyer is the typical softie, tough on the outside and soft on the inside. Makes me think of the long the short and the tall’s Macleish who shares a similar character; tough and ready to fight, yet extremely concerned about his brother.

It’s the last week of school this week, finally. My maid was just wondering when she’d have to stop waking up so early and cooking lunch for me at 6 in the morning for me to bring to school.

the second last week
Friday, November 30, 2007,10:58 PM
this week has been a horrible rush, first the cancelled DOE trip, then monday's athletics day and CAT tests, then the social.
You might think that once those exams are over, things would go smooth sailing after that, but it's been the exact opposite. my english coursework is due next week, and the final piece next week, the music performance next week as well as aurals, only a silly bio test this week.
the first question scared us, it was something we'd never heard of before: what is the function of a mesophyll cell?
the social's songs started off okay, but towards the end most of it got more couple-y, with slow songs and less dance music. however, there were some outstanding bands among the bands that played that night.
now that the weekends are here, i'm going to try make the most of it and attack the homework pile. now for today's topic- cute, precocious kids.
i overheard a couple of little kids talking among themselves today, among them was this little girl who was really talkative.
she said, " i have many cousins, you know, and one of them is BOTAK and the other has hair.'
then another one said, 'i only have one cousin'
then she said, 'oh, i have zillion-million-billions- of cousins.'
later she told the little guy who was singing jingle bells beside her, 'aiyah you sing like a GIRL.'
then later she was discussing spiderman and she said a matter-of-factly, ' you can't be spiderman without your suit! do you have the spiderman suit?'
today i got a subsitute cover teacher during tutor group. he told us a riddle-
there was a woman in a restaurant, she died while eating turtle soup.
we found out, so far:
- she died of shock- a heart attack
- the turtle soup killed her
- there was no foreign object in the soup, nothing that was in there that shouldn't have been, it was a soup that anybody could eat and not die.
- not an allergy
- the turtle was properly cooked
- she wasn't poisoned
- she was perfectly healthy.
any conclusions? feel free to post in the cbox =)
one last thing, i have a silly joke: The English teacher asked his 3 students, a German, a Frenchman, and a Chinese, to make up a sentence using the words green , pink, and yellow.
The German student went first, and said: “I woke up this morning, brushed my teeth with a green brush, dried my face with a pink towel, and put on my yellow shirt”.
The Frenchman was next, and said with flair: “I woke up this morning, the grass all around was green , there were beautiful pink flowers everywhere, and yellow sunshine shone brilliantly upon them.
The teacher was smiling with pride, his students have learnt well.
Then it was the Chinese student’s turn. He said, equally confidently: “I woke up this morning, the phone was ringing green green , so I pink up the phone, and said yellow ???”Labels: funnies, school, thoughts
pitch black
Monday, November 19, 2007,4:24 PM

she said, "enough, enough of it all! ...I'm tired of it all!"
"take this canvas, and paint it pitch black.
hide all the mistakes, embarassments and sorrow,
redraw, restart, redo it all!"

The exams are coming soon. 3 more days.
I think the teachers have made us do all the papers possible.
There's nothing more to do, except revise and hope for the best.
there is a lot to look forward to, after this exams.
a much needed holiday, to get away from this hectic year.
today, i walked into an extremely noisy maths class.
it was shocking as most of the time my maths class is totally silent.
here there were people bargaining from table to table, asking people for cards or something.
i saw nurul telling someone, ' I DID NOT TAKE YOUR B,"
turned out they were playing a game.
the objective of the game was to trade variables around until you got all the ones needed to make a formula of the area of a whatever.
Our table won, but without my participation. oh well. good game.
the team names were funny, though. there was a team named butter monkeys, another 'i don't know' that got an extra 10 points for clue-less-ness. =)
i've noticed that recently many ice-cream shops have opened.
first, there was only DQ.
then swensens
then bakerlyn's with homemade gelato
then dreamcones
then now the florentino one.
it's a trend. before this japanese sushi restaurants were in.Labels: food, school, thoughts
awhile more to go
Monday, November 12, 2007,10:32 PM

do you reason to conclude feelings or follow feelings to reason?
only several days more till the science exam. it's on thursday the 22nd of november. three sciences, all in a day. it's only a while more to go, before it's all over.
when the exams are over, i can start reading more of haruki murakami again- japanese literature is just so insightful, simple yet twisted- so interesting. i will go on deviantart more, this time i will try submit more stuff, and try to improve my photography again.
oh, and correction, the social is AFTER the exam. also, it's cheaper for couples to go together. when i told mum this, she said jokingly, 'seems like jis encourages their boys to learn how to ask ladies out...' they do imply this, but whatever- it's only a dollar's difference! a pair of dull scissors in the yellow light
Thursday, November 8, 2007,10:30 PM
i cut his hair myself one night
a pair of dull scissors in the yellow light
and he told me that i'd done alright
and kissed me till the morning light
i went to the hairdressers today, after not going for a haircut for about three months. the science exams are coming soon... and there are so many activities- first the social, then international day, then the toyota concert thing. three things all before the exam, just brilliant. they can't expect the year 10's to all attend when they're supposed to be studying hard.
when you're in the hairdresser's chair, don't you feel like you're at the mercy of her pair of scissors? rest assured at least your hair will grow out if it you think it looks horrible...

oh, and you'll finally realise how much sleep you've been lacking lately if you fall asleep while the hairdresser is washing your hair.

the carnival
Sunday, October 28, 2007,11:58 AM

Round and round
Carousel
Has got you under its spell
Moving so fast
But going nowhere

So when will this end
it goes on and on
Over and over and over again
Keep spinning around I know that it won't stop
Till I step down from this for good

Up and down
The ferris wheel
Tell me how does it feel
To be so high
Looking down here
Is it lonely? Lonely?

did the clown
make you smile
he was only your fool for awhile
but now, he's gone back home
and left you wandering there

extracts from songs on carnivals. idyllic places, they seem to be. they evoke a feeling of peace. I've often wondered how'd it be like to go visit one. i'd love to visit a proper one.

waited till i saw the sun
Monday, September 24, 2007,7:59 PM
yet another post. I've changed my layout, because familiarity breeds contempt and i was beginning to detest that shade of pink. The whole theme was lurrrrve i've added several stuff to the sidebar now.
the picture above shows the progress of one of the potted plants i planted ages two weeks+ ago (i think.) The one with little surprises. The rest haven't grown much, the 4 o'clocks barely even considered plants just yet.
So the week has just started. I've begun to have second thoughts on DT, i seem to find the class a little boring, and many people have been saying how 'lucky' i was to be able to take all three creative subs. The fact is, they are not entirely creative and i want to voice just once at for all that NOT ALL MY SUBJECTS ARE CREATIVE, they are simply labelled CREATIVE as you NEED creative skills to do this subject. And, it's not limiting my options, i'm simply doing what i enjoy, although i'm entirely sure that i enjoy DT...
It's my first year, taking this sub and saying i'm good at it simply isn't reassuring at all. It scares me that i have to pick subjects to 'specialize' in, and i have to stick to it for the next two years regardless of whether i enjoy it or not: but then again, didn't i do that back in my old school, regardless of whether i enjoyed commerce* or not, i did it anyway... and survived a year of ledger accounts.
the trouble with it all is that in normal school i was never allowed to pick my subjects, thus making me unbiased to any particular subjects, having no favourites or hates in my list of subjects.
note; commerce is a mix of business studies and accounting.

Can't stop the rain by complaining
Saturday, August 25, 2007,12:18 PM
i'm never gonna stop the rain by complaining
-------Raindrops keep falling on my head
School is coming nearer and nearer! sis says aha this is your last weekend off school! this morning i wrapped every single one of my books half-heartedly while singing away to my new cd. Okay. i'm a bit off concentrating now and i'm just wondering how the first day of school is going to be like. Obviously i have to bring everything just in case.
in case i have pe, i must bring my pe bag.
in case i get a strict teacher, i must bring everything needed to be on the safe side.
it's not good to get scolded on the first day of school.
it is fun to explore new rooms around and search for different rooms again. And there are clueless new students wandering about. Back on the day when i was a new student it wasn't anything out of particular, it wasn't as bad as i imagined. Everyone said hi to me and asked me what i thought of the school. I remember getting lost while trying to get to P block for english.
oh yes, first day of school is another repitetion of my first day of school. only this time i'll have friends who'll be in the same boat. At least i know which block is which.
-----------------------------
i went to school yesterday and saw a huge crowd around the drama room as mum was circling about looking for a parking space. Then this huge crowd began to move towards the sixth form block. aha. showing new students around the school.
I got my books in the drama room. There were blue packages on the ground and there was one with my name on. Year 10- Rachel Wong. Year 10. I don't know why up till now it hasn't sunken into my head that i'm going to be in year 10 already. I keep calling the year 11 the year 10s and my classmates -the year 9s.
Then after that i went to miri. Came back at nine, there was a heavy downpour and there were a lot of jams along the way, especially down seria. Then sis slept around the tutong stretch to the highway in muara and i took pictures of her sleeping with her mouth open on mum's mobile.
There was a really bad accident around the highway- the muara stretch and there was a car sort-of wrapped around the tree. Many people parked their cars and got off to look as though it was some road-side pasar malam thing. I hope the person is alright. The car seemed like a proton.
Okay. Moooviing on to happier things. I'm happy i've got books to read now, i'm a little nervous about the first day of school. So. I end this mega-long post with pictures of hybrid dogs. (no kidding.)

Schnauzer + Poodle = Schnoodle

Cocker Spaniel + Poodle = Cockapoo

Pomeranian + Chihuahua = Pomchi

(This breed is to my taste, i like small cute puppies like these!)
Boston Terrier + Pug = Bug

Labradors + Poodles= Labradoodles

and they have goldendoodles as well, golden retrievers and poodle crosses.
